Shakespeare; Long Beach West; New EMS home at the Old

Public Forum
On Tuesday,June 26th 3rd District
Councilman Stratford, Gavin Forrester and
Charlie Perez of SAFE held a public forum with town
residents to discuss concerns about environmental issues
that may arise from the Moses Wheeler Bridge Project
138-221. More than the needed 25 signatures were
acquired to
request a public hearing with CTDEP and DOT in
Stratford. Concerns raised
included:
- The retention ponds used for bridge water
run-off and the potential of a breeding ground for
mosquitoes and West Nile Virus.
- The movement of Raymark contaminated asbestos
waste from the commercial properties on Ferry
Boulevard to the former Raybestos Ball Field.
- The responsibility for cost and maintenance of
the dump site.
- Traffic congestion issues once construction
begins.

PRESS RELEASE
The public
is invited to attend a meeting at the Stratford Library Lovell
Room for an open information session to be held on June 26th
between 6:30 and 8:00 PM by Town of Stratford 3rd
District Council Representative Gavin Forrester, in
conjunction with members of SAFE, to discuss the latest CTDEP
news release in which appeared in the June 17th
Edition of the Connecticut Post concerning replacement of the
Moses Wheeler Bridge Project 138-221. Copies of the
Connecticut Post article and a copy of the State's plan plus a
location map will be provided to the
public. The
Connecicut Post article stated there would not be a public
meeting unless 25 people request a public meeting to discuss
concerns with the project.
The issues
being raised include plans to remove trees from the right of
way on Ferry Boulevard on the area across from Danny's Drive
In to create a potential dump site for construction debris on
that location. The dumped material would be from bridge
materials and in Stage 4 it would be removed and replaced by a
newly constructed 200 foot by 50 foot settling pond to be used
for bridge water run-off. The pond could be a breeding area
for mosquito's and a
foul
smelling stagnant body of water so Councilman Forrester would
like to obtain enough signatures to require the Connecticut
DOT to hold a public meeting to discuss safeguards for the
prevention of West Nile bearing mosquito larva from developing
in the retention pond. The goal is to enlighten the public and
obtain the required number of signatures to obtain a public
hearing on
the project.
